Ethan likes to smile....

at his elephant,
at Mommy when he's playing with his girlfriend,

at his elephant again,

at Mommy in his cool dude outfit,

and apparently like a pirate :) AARGGH
I posted twice today so be sure to scroll down to the next entry!!!

This week, Ethan liked....

learning how to use his fingers to grab at the links on his play mat. He is even learning how to bring them up to his mouth. It won't be long before everything is full of slobber.

hanging out, in just diapers, with his cousin, Alaina.

warming up after a fun bath!

having a play date with his girlfriend, Emelia.

Even though she likes to try to bite him!

AND FINALLY.....LEARNING HOW TO LAUGH!!! (AS OF WEDNESDAY) Check out his new skill in the video below.

P.S. He is also starting to learn how to roll. He can now get himself over to one side. It won't be long before there is a video of his progress.

Ethan's Baptism

Yesterday was a very special day for our family. Ethan was baptized! He was a very good boy and didn't even cry. He even gave the pastor a few of his special smiles. We would have posted a picture of us with Ethan's Godparents, Courtney and Kelly, but Mike decided he didn't like the picture of himself - his eyes were closed. Doesn't he look just so handsome in his white tux from grandma?

Then just to warm your hearts, here is a picture of Ethan's wonderful SMILE! That is probably my favorite part about the age he is at right now. He definitely recognizes who his mommy and daddy are, and greet us with huge smiles when we talk to him!

Our Little Fish

The past couple of weeks have been quite busy for us! Last week, Mike, Ethan, Peg, Lainey and I took a trip down to Rockford to see Mike's grandpa. While we were there, we went out for breakfast at Stockholm. It's a Swedish restaurant that we absolutely LOVE! Here is a pic of Lainey and I with the cow found in the lobby, then one of Ethan and his grandma, Peg.Although I'm not completely sure which day it was, Ethan had the opportunity to hang out with his girlfriend, Emelia, a few times over the past couple of weeks. Their favorite game at the time is to try to see who can yell louder. If one of them starts to cry, the other quickly follows suit. Here are some pics from their last two dates:Perhaps the most exciting trip for Ethan over the last couple of weeks, was the trip to the Whitewater Aquatic Center. Since he absolutely loves his bath time, we thought he would also enjoy the pool. So, when asked by his grandma Peg and Lainey to accompany them, it wasn't a hard decision! He spent over an hour just floating around in the water with me. No fussing or crying, he just laid back and relaxed. Here are some pics from the day.
Finally, on Wednesday, we had Ethan's 2 month check up with Doctor Roe. He said Ethan looks like a healthy little guy and is on track as far as milestones go. He can hold his head up for a short amount of time, track a moving object, smile, coo, and respond to mom's and dad's voices. He also got his first set of shots. I'm pretty sure it was much more painful for my mom and I than it was for Ethan. He only cried for a couple of minutes - what a trooper! Here are his numbers:
Weight: 12 lbs even - 58th percentile
Height: 24 inches - 85th percentile
Head: 40 cm. - 77th percentile
His next check up isn't until 4 months old, which is nice now that the check ups also include shots!

Bathtime with Daddy and Photo Session

Ethan has really grown to LOVE bathtime! Mike has made it even more fun lately by getting in with him. That way his whole body can be under the water and he doesn't get chilly as quickly as he did in the baby bath. Funny thing is neither of us realized he would float! Mike has to constantly push his little belly and butt down.
He has also started holding is head up for longer periods of time. It takes some major concentration - as you can tell by his face - but he now almost always prefers to be standing on our laps rather than lying around. It won't be long before we try out a exersaucer - he can really jump sometimes with those little legs!

Since this week was Ethan's 8 week birthday, we decided to go to JCPenney for a photo session! Ethan tried to cooperate but got a little fed up with being cold and tired. We still managed to get a few great shots! His 2 month doctor appointment is on Wednesday so I will be sure to update weight, height, and head circumference when I get home..I'm sure he has broken the 12 lb marker!

Kidney News

We went to UW Children's Hospital today to have Ethan's kidneys checked yet again. His doctor said the radiologist looked at the pictures taken during the ultrasound and thinks it isn't something wrong with his kidneys at all. It appears that the tube leading from the right kidney to the bladder is simply larger than what is normally found in babies. As he put it, it is a "variant of normal." This is good news...it looks like we won't have to make another trip up to Madison for six months!

P.S. Our chunky little man weighed in at 11 lbs 10 ozs today :)

Bottles and Smiles

Over the last couple of weeks, lots of changes have occurred! Ethan is getting much stronger and is able to straighten out his legs and hold his little body up (with some help of course) on our laps. He can hold his head up for about 30 seconds at a time, which makes looking around a whole lot more fun! He is really starting to take in the world around him and, if we are lucky, we get a big smile and some chatter when he spots us! Ethan also loves to give some of his biggest smiles and longest conversations to the ceiling fan, doorways, lights, and ceilings. We try to catch them on camera but haven't quite mastered it yet. Here is our best attempt below.
In preparation for me going back to work in a few weeks, we have started working with Ethan on taking the breastmilk in bottles and sleeping in his crib (in his own room) instead of the cradle at our bedside. He has taken to the bottles like a champ and chows them down. The crib is also going quite well for nap time. Ethan is going to sleep in his crib overnight tonight for the first time. I'm sure he will do just fine - I'll probably be the one who needs some comforting :)Don't mind that he keeps his eyes open while sleeping!Last weekend, we took a trip down to Rockford to see Ethan's great grandpa. He loved his bright red shirt and his funny noises. Great grandpa was the lucky recipient of lots of smiles and even some great stories by Ethan.

The video is of Ethan and his cousin Kileigh from yesterday. Kileigh loves loves loves Ethan and wants to make him happy. She wanted to hold him so, with some help, she got her wish! Ethan, however wasn't loving it. In case you can't understand Ki, she is saying blankey when she says "dicky." Also, notice the shushing she picked up on from watching us when Ethan cries. Just thought the video was a really sweet one.

P.S. Due to the weather, we had to reschedule our Madison kidney ultrasound. The new appointment will be on next Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday we have the ultrasound and on Wednesday we have the consultation with the doctor.
