August 10th - Welcome Baby Brady!!

Despite a solid week of off and on contractions, I never did go into labor before August 10th.  We had decided at my 39 week appointment that if it didn't happen before Friday, we would just go the induction route.  That way we could make plans for Ethan for the day and hopefully avoid a c-section (we were a bit worried he was going to be huge).

So, at 6:00 Friday morning, after a night of tossing and turning, we arrived at the hospital, ready to get the ball rolling!
Around 7:15 we started the pitocin, the medicine that gets the contractions going.  Although I was having some pretty mild cramps, it took a bit for labor to kick in.  Here is my strip, baby's heart rate going strong and a few contractions.
By about 8:30, Dr. Munns showed up and broke my water to try to get the contractions to be a bit stronger.  I had hoped for a lunch time delivery and was starting to think that wasn't going to happen. But, by about 9:15 I started to get pretty uncomfortable.  Dr. Munns had said that if I was planning to get an epidural to do it before it got too painful (it's much easier to put in an epidural on a still patient than one who is squirming in pain).  So, by about 10:30 I was feeling pretty good.  My nurse checked me and I was still only 3 cm but a bit thinner.  Around 11:30 I mentioned to my nurse that I was feeling some pressure.  She checked and I was COMPLETE!!!  I was shocked and super happy that I got my epidural when I did.  A few contractions later, our little man Brady arrived!  This time around I invited my mom in the room with Mike and I.  I know she had always wanted to see a baby born and it was also a great opportunity to get some great pics.  Thanks mom for capturing Brady's first breaths and first minutes of life, how special!

We welcomed Brady Alan Ekedahl into the world on August 10th at 12:09 pm, just in time to have a cheeseburger and french fries for lunch as planned!  He weighed 7lb 7oz and was 21 inches long.

With some creative positioning, my mom got him coming out without showing too much :)
 Hi everyone!

 Daddy's first time holding Brady
Mom's first looks at Brady.  We all noticed those chubby cheeks, dark complexion, and of course his mountain of hair!
After we left the recovery room and Brady and I had a chance to clean up, Ethan came to the hospital with my dad and Pam to meet his new little brother.  He was pretty excited.
 His first looks...
 First hugs...
He was a proud big brother!  He was commenting on how "cute" everything was.  His cute nose, eyes, hair, etc.  He even told us that Brady wanted some mac and cheese.
 Our new family of four!

 Happy/proud big bro!

Can't wait to see what life is like with two little boys!  We love you guys :)
